Welcome to The Koopman Family Farm website, doing business as KFF Suri Alpacas! We are Bill and Emi Koopman. As always, we are joined by our four children Lliam, Hunter, Aidan, and Cara.

Bill and Emi met in January of 1995 during our chiropractic education in Lombard, Illinois and have been together since. In June of 2004 we made our first alpaca purchase. We built our dream home and farm on 65 acres of beautiful rolling land that was once a cornfield in LaPorte, Indiana. We are happy to say that we have about 55 acres in all grass hay, which we offer for sale, when available.

We have two new-construction Morton Buildings. The larger 100’ by 72’ barn is ideal for our tractor, hay equipment, trailers, and hay storage. This barn will also house the business office and showroom in the future. The smaller 60’ by 36’ barn is our soon-to-be heated livestock barn. It has 12’ overhangs on three sides and ample room inside. We currently have eight fenced pastures that are approximately one acre each.

Our current goals include finishing a fence around the perimeter of the 65 acres, including an automatic gate across the entrance driveway. As part of our herd protection plan, we have a female and a neutered male Anatolian Shepherd puppies. We are considering the possibility of breeding the female.

KFF Suri Alpacas is a member of the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA), The Alpaca Registry (ARI), The Suri Network (TSN), and the Alpaca Fiber Coop of North America (AFCNA) . Bill is the Vice President of the Indiana Alpaca Association (IAA), a newly formed organization. Bill is the President of Indiana Alpacas, Inc which is organizing the Indiana Alpaca Invitational event in Fort Wayne, Indiana the first weekend in April, annually.

Our breeding goals are multifaceted. We believe that Suri alpacas should only be bred to other Suri alpacas. With each breeding, we are attempting to improve our herd’s genetics towards finer, denser fiber with a conformationally correct foundation. Also of paramount importance to our breeding program is the production of strong, viable, reproductively sound cria. We love alpacas of all colors and geographic origins.

Whether you are new to the alpaca industry, experienced breeders, or just interested in finding out more about these wonderful and rare creatures, we are happy to hear from you. Call or e-mail us today to set up your visit of KFF Suri Alpacas.

We graduated from Chiropractic school and were married in 1998. We decided to pursue other interests for a while before settling down into a practice. After starting and selling a few businesses, we came across alpacas and have never looked back. We moved our four children and one set of grandparents to Indiana were we run our farm full-time, along with other part-time businesses from home (see our embroidery link). While the physical work of farming is demanding (lets not forget the 55 acres of hay!), we couldn’t be happier. We truly are doing what we love and loving what we do! We have the joy of spending quality time with our children, our alpacas and various other critters, and each other.
